My favorite things in Venice:
- Spaghetti carbonara at Trattoria da Sara. (We went back to eat this three times. It was that good!)
- Traveling by boat. (We came into Venice by boat and it was AMAZING to see it that way for the first time. I highly recommend it.)
- Cremino gelato. (Tastes like Nutella mixed with Ferrero Rocher.)
- The biggest room at the Doge’s Palace.
- Shopping. (It’s basically a big shopping mall on water.)
- Lasagna at Trattoria Ai Leoncini. (Best lasagna I had on the entire trip.)
- The quirky bookstore called Libreria Acqua Alta. (All of the books that have been ruined by water have been stacked to make walls.)
- The Bridge of Sighs.
What I wish I had done/known:
- Venice may flood. (We missed the floods within a few hours. Just be prepared for water. The hotels will have plastic to cover up to your thighs as well as umbrellas.)
- Mosquitoes. (I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before hand. One of our friends got at least 20 mosquito bites inside the hotel room. Bring bug spray.)
