Well this project took me a hot minute to get to but it was cold outside and I like being comfortable. It’s getting warmer by the day so prepare yourself for a whole plethora of outdoor posts. My goal with this particular project was to makeover the entrance to our home for $200. Im happy to report we had $50 left over!

How to achieve a smooth paint finish:
- Use rollers with 1/4 inch nap or less. 1/2 inch nap and greater creates texture. You can also use a high density foam roller.
- For your paint brush, newer nylon brushes seem to work best. When you feel the bristles, it needs to feel very smooth and soft to you (much like conditioned hair). The smoother the feel, the smoother it will paint. Steer clear of coarse bristles or brushes with old stuck-on paint. Here is my favorite brush ($10).
- Sand between paint coats. Run your hand over the surface to make sure you don’t feel any bumps before painting again.
- Here is the weird part…. instead of letting my roller actually roll, I drag my roller across the surface. Its different and takes some getting use to, but it looks so smooth when finished. In order to keep the roller from rolling, you can use a finger to hold it still, or use a small piece of tape to keep it in place.
- Once you have painted an area, don’t be tempted to go over it again if it has been more than a minute. This will create texture because the paint will be tacky.
- Work quickly. Start at the top, going back and forth, and work your way down.
Here is a reminder of what it looked like before…
