I am a lover of all things Anthropologie. If every item in my house could be from there, you bet it would be. When I saw the Gleaming Primrose Mirror, there was no exception.
She’s a beaut, Clark! I instantly fell in love and added it to my cart. WAIT! $500.00!! NOOOOO!!! I can’t justify spending that much money on a mirror. Not with 5 little ones at home. Not with all the house projects. Not with the trips we have planned. Shoot!
I’m not alone in my love for this mirror. Out of 1700 home products at Anthropologie, THIS is the top rated item at right now. Everyone is obsessed with this gorgeous mirror, and rightfully so.
I started searching the web. No dice. I looked for lookalikes for the next year. Yes, you read that right. YEAR! I wanted it so bad. Then, one magical day, I came across a mirror that is as close as it will ever be.
Even the dimensions…
Kirklands: 40 inches high, 32 inches wide
Anthropologie: 39 inches high, 39 inches wide
It can’t get much closer than that! I personally want the gold one and it seems simple enough to reproduce.
Quick couple coats of gold spray paint, a little rough up with sand paper and some dark gel stain. Ta-Da! My Anthro mirror knock off!
My mirror total was $129.99! 1/4 of the price of the original mirror.
- Mirror at Kirklands
- Mirror at Anthropologie
- Gold Paint I taped off the mirror and gave it two quick coats of spray paint with 30 minutes dry time in between.
- Gel Stain I found this in my garage so that’s why I used it but I was very pleased with the results. I am sure that Annie Sloan dark wax would work well too. After the spray paint is dry, try to work the dark gel stain into the cracks.
- Gold wax I also found this in my garage but it was nice to add bright hints of gold or if I got too heavy handed on the dark to quickly touch up. Try to just use this on just the edges.

I have been looking for the same anthro mirror dupe for WEEKS!! I am so excited to give this a try. I’ve ordered the mirror, spray paint, and wax. But I’m a little confused on what exactly the gel stain was used for? Can you explain that process a bit more? Thanks for the awesome article!!

Hi Julie! I’m so excited for you! I hope you love it. I just wanted some darker tones in the crevices so it didn’t look so freshly painted and a bit more aged. You just rub it on wherever you think it needs a little something. Hope that helps!

Same! I’ve been eyeing the Antro mirror as well and haven’t been able to justify the price tag. Kirkland’s dupe ordered!!!

Oh yay! I hope it works out just as good for you. xoxo

Hello! Did you mount your mirror on the wall or rest / lean it on the table? I didn’t want to hang mine.
Thanks so much !

I just leaned it against the wall. Hope that helps!

I’m glad you love this mirror, I designed it for Kirkland’s specifically. My inspiration actually wasn’t the Anthropologie mirror – it was a similar Louis Phillip mirror at Ar Haus. That mirror retails for over $1500! I love designing mirrors that take there design cues from luxury pieces that are far out of the range of most people and making them just as beautiful and much more affordable.

Kevin can you ask Kirkland to make a gold version! This will sell out fast I’m sure as you know how popular they are at Kirkland’s! It’s an exquisite design! I like it more than the arhaus one!

Hello! Did you see that Kirkland’s made a taller version of this mirror in gold? Item #224689.

Thank you so much for this information! I have been obsessing over a french inspired mirror for above our fireplace in our new home and was not spending what I’ve seen advertised. Seriously, you have made my great room complete!

Hi there! I was curious if regular stain would work or if gel stain is a must for the application? Thanks so much!

I haven’t tried it but I am sure you could use that and it would work just fine. The goal is to get the darker stain in the crevices to get the dimension and aging you are looking for. I bet if you brushed it on and then wiped it off, it would do just fine.
