The holidays are over and I find myself wishing the snow went with it. Instead, I am choosing to get a head start on our spring projects. To be honest, the front door of our fixer-upper could use a facelift. It’s so dated and lacks any character or style. The door is wood and currently painted white with a black inlay in the glass. It’s surrounded by red brick that someone put adhesive on. There is nothing about it that is inviting, appealing or suggests the overall style of our home.
Planning phase:
We could purchase a new or antique door, but that is pricey and the door is in good shape. I decide to reuse the door to save money and begin thinking about paint. There are so many fresh, beautiful paint colors out there right now. Since my personal taste is a mixture of timeless and curated, I already know that black is the way to go, especially given the black inlay in the glass. That said, I also want the door to have more character… so why not add some detail with moulding?
Needed items:
- moulding to add more character and charm
- glossy exterior black paint
- inexpensive and classic spring wreath
- inexpensive and classic doormat
- inexpensive and stylish black numbers
- umbrealla stand
To-Do list:
- clean brick
- stain brick white
- add moulding to the door
- paint door black
- hang wreath
- attach numbers to house
- add doormat
- find something to repurpose as an umbrella holder for the spring rain
Can I do it for under $200? Fingers crossed!!
